COMMEMORATION MASS
PANMURE CATHOLIC CHURCH The annua] solemn commemoration of the deceased Catholic bishops, religious and laity or the diocese of Auckland was held at the Catholic Church, Panmure, yesterday morning. The solemn requiem mass vas celebrated by the Ven. Archdeacon Holbrook, and the Rev. Fathers Dunphy and Quinn were deacon and sub-deacon, respectively. The Rev. Dr. Buxton was master of ceremonies. There was a large congregation, including the priests from the city and suburban churches, as well as representatives of the Marist Brothers and other religious teachers. The chant of the mass was sung by a choir of priests. The organist was Miss Noll Ormond, The sermon was preached by the Very Rev. M. J. Blcakley, who, in recalling- the memory .of the pioneers, said that the best way in which tho present generation coidd show themselves 'worthy successors' would be by evincing a liko faith, courage, and fortitude in present' difficulties. Only by copying the virtues of the pioneers would we be able to hand on, enhanced, the heritage that the first settlers had so nobly acquired in this land of promise. At the conclusion of the sermon, the Right Rev. Dr. Liston, escorted by the clergy, and followed by the laity, carried out the blessing of the graves.
