AUSTRALIAN MARKETS VERY KEEN COMPETITION PRICES REMAIN FIRM A HARDENING TENDENCY By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received November 2, 9.35 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 2 There was very strong general competition at the Sydney wool sales today, and the market closed fully firm at lato rates for all descriptions, with a distinct hardening tendency for all well-grown wools. Greasy Merino sold to 2G:ld, which was paid for five bales from Barraba. The offerings totalled 12,757 hales, of which 12,119 were sold. Also 2->33 bales were disposed of privately. The averago price paid for greasy wool in Sydney for the first three days of tii is week was £lB 5s 5d a bale, or 1 Id a lb. At the Melbourne sales to-day, competition was again very keen, with all the best features of the two preceding days much in evidence. Prices in most cases favoured sellers.
