DOMINION INTERESTS
APPROVAL OF SCHEME [from OCR OWN correspondent] HAMILTON, Thursday Commenting on the restriction of foreign bacon imports into Britain, Mr, W. A. Phillips, chairman of directors of the New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association, stated to-day that the restriction was in keeping with the objects of tho pig reorganisation scheme, which was set up to improve the position of tho homo producers. it was evident, from recent advices, that the British farmer had responded to the scheme beyond all expectations. Consequently it had become necessary further to restrict foreign imports, in order to maintain the minimum price guaranteed under the scheme. No interference with the export of frozen j>igs from the Dominions, beyond an indication of tho approximate quantity of bacon pigs to bo exported during the next two years, was contemplated. Tho New Zealand Co-operativo Pig Marketing Association had fully protected its suppliers for its export requirements for the present year. However, it would appear that an indication was now required for next, year's exports as well, hut in view of the rapid increase in production, it would be no easy matter at this stage to give a reliable estimate of next year's exports. It was understood that this was required for a basis on which to regulate foreign imports to ensure the satisfactory operation of tho scheme.
