BACON IMPORTS

BRITISH RESTRICTION ORDER TO BE MADE British Wireless BUGBY, Nov. 1 Tho negotiations with tho representatives of tho Danish Government were concluded yesterday, but no agreement was reached for a voluntary reduction of 16 per cent in bacon exports to Britain. In the afternoon the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. "\Y. -L. blli.ot, met representatives of Holland, Poland, Bat's ia, Estonia, Sweden, I' inland, Russia, Argentina and the United States and explained tho reasons necessitating the curtailment of foreign bacon supplies. An official statement was later issued by the Minister, which said that, having regard to the largo volumo of contracts entered into by home producers for delivery of pigs to bacon factories during the four months from November to February, it was necessary to secure a further reduction of 16 per cent in the supplies of bacon from foreign sources. Proposals to that end wero placed before the representatives of the Governments concerned, and while some were prepared to accept them, others felt unable to do so voluntarily. Tho British Government, therefore, had decided to proceed in accordance with tho Agricultural Marketing Act, and an order, effecting the necessary reduction of foreign supplies as from November 1, to take effect at the earliest practical date, would be made in a fewdays.
