MAORI SENT TO PRISON [from ocr OWN' correspondent] TE AROHA, Thursday Tn tJic To Aroha Polico Court, bofore justices, a young Maori, AVhare iVlikaere, of Tahuna, pleaded guilty to stealing a postal note for 1-ls, the property of S. on August 30, and also to breaking into tho Tirohia Etorc with intent to commit a erimo on August 30. C'on.stable Monson said tho first charge related to' the rural mail dolivery in ihe Tahuna district. Accused had been in the habit of travelling round with the mail contractor, assisting him in his'deliveries. When ho took a letter to one of t/io boxes ho guessed it contained money and retained it. Later he opened it and found in it a postal note for Ms. .Accused gave it to another Maori to cash at the Talnina More. Accused expressed regret for his action. He ivas sentenced to seven days' imprisonment. On the second charge, accused was remanded to appear at Paeroa next {Tuesday.
