I Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesi terday, when Frederick Walter Mcj Lcnnan, aged .*3O, baker, admitted | stealing a radio set valued at £2O, the property of the Challen-RAD Distributors Company, Limited. Accused, who elected summary jurisdiction, also pleaded guilty to a charge of obtaining £5 in money from John Robert Auger by falsely representing that he was editor of the newspaper Liberal, and that he would employ Auger if he paid £5 for five shares in the concern. Detective-Sergeant O'Sullivan said that in January Auger advertised for a position, and was answered by accused, who said he was the editor of a newspaper called the Liberal. He offered to employ Auger at £5 a week if he would take five shares in the company. The Magistrate: The same old swindle. Mr O'Sullivan said there was not registered any such paper as the Liberal. Later accused obtained a radio set on approval, and sold it. He was at present serving a sentence of three years' imprisonment, which commenced last February. The magistrate remarked that a further sentence was unnecessary. Accused was convicted and discharged.
