WHANGARATA-POKENO 'ROAD PROSPECTS OF METALLING [from our owx correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Wednesday r Metalling of the/new road between Whangarata and Pokeno, which is a declared highway, was discussed at today's meeting of the Franklin County Council. Advice was received from Mr. F. S. Dyson, district Public Works engineer at Auckland, that £6OO was to appear on this year's Estimates as a pound for pound subsidy for the work, the total cost being estimated at £I2OO. 'The county engineer, Sir. J. F. McAr.thur, explained ,that this allowed for the crushing, carting, spreading and rolling of the metal.The councd agreed that if the rates came in satisfactorily its share could be allocated for the work. Mr. McArthur was asked to submit proposals' to the department for the expenditure of the subsidy. The diversion of the Whakatiwai Stream to prevent flooding of the coast road was authorised by the council, subject to the consent of the owner of the land 1 Mr. J. Henry was re-elected the council's representative on' the board of managers of the Pukekohe Technical High School.
