BALLOT FOR LAND
NORTp AUCKLAND AREAS _—-4SECT/ONS NEAR TE KOPURU Five sections of land, ranging from 74 to 197 acres, were balloted for at a meeting of the North Auckland Land Board yesterday. There were 19 applicants. of whom 13 applied for an area of 197 acres of second-class land in .the Hobson County, seven miles from To Kopuru 011 the Te Kopuru-Redhill road. Sir. A. Pitoni was successful. The capital value of the land is £175, and tho half-yearly rental is £3 10s. About 50 acres of the property is peat swamp, tho balance being undulating to hilly pipeclay country covered in fern and short scrub. A neighbouring property of 166 acres of similar country, with a capital value of £125 and a half-yearly rental of £2 10s, went to Mr. K. B. Hamlin, while Mr. C. Seymour was successful for a section of 74 acres of gum country covered in fern and 6crub two miles from To Kopuru, tho capital value of which is £GO. There were no applicants for an area of 73 acres of similar land about li miles from To Kopuru. Tho four properties are exempt from the payment of rates for three years. The successful applicant for a property of 305 acres in tho Tutamoe survey district, about 7\ miles from Donelly's Crossing, was Mr. A. M. Lockhead, who intends to farm tho area in conjunction with an adjoining holding of IB acres ho has under.,the small farm scheme. The property, which is rent-free for two years, has a capital value of £BO. Tho section is all in heavy bush. A leasehold section of 55J acres about 2J- miles from Dairy Flat, in the Waitemata County, was not allotted.
