COLLECTION OF RATES A report on the collection of rates in tliG One Tree Hill borough was received at a meeting of the council last evening from tho clerk, Mr. A. Leeso. In respect of current rates, payments amounted to £Ol2 moro than last year. Of tho total current rates, 42.3 per cent had been collected, gympared with 40 per cent in 1932. The total of arrears collected was lower. A request to be. placed on tho list for a revaluation of property, under the Urban Farm Lands Rating Act. ]<J;!2, on tho grounds that tho present valuation was excessive, was received from a ratepayer. Tho recommendation of tho that .the council' should not prepare such a list at the present juncture was adopted. One of tho reasons given by the clerk was that it was extremely doubtful if any land in the borough came within the definition in the Act of urban farm lands. The building inspector reported that permits involving £605 had been issued for tho period from July 27 to August--17. Since the beginning of the year 61 permits had been issued, valued at £10,034.
