LAND FOR AIRPORT
AREA AT NEW PLYMOUTH AUTHORITY FOR PURCHASE [by TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] NEW PLYMOUTH. Tuesday An Order-in-G'ouncil was issued today empowering the New Plymouth Borough Council to purchase 117 acres of the Connett Estate surrounding: on three sides 60 acres at present owned by the Aero Club at Bell Block. The purchase, which will probably be made immediately the Borough Council's decision is confirmed, is for the purpose of creating an aerodrome that can be classified by the authorities as suitable for all types of aircraft at all times. Under the Order-in-Council the area will be known as the New Plymouth Airport, and its control will be vested in a board of seven members.
The price per acre is £37 los. and the total cost to the Borough Council will be approximately £4420.
