ART UNION GRANT

SUM OF £IBBO ALLOTTED HELPING TAKAPUNA MEN BOOT AND CLOTHING ISSUES An allocation of £IBBO from tho proceeds of tho "My Lucky Chance" art union is to bo received by tho Auckland Metropolitan Unemployment Belief Committee, according to advice received by tho committee yesterday from tho Department of Internal Affairs. It was also stated that an amount of £l6, based on unemployment registrations from tho Takapuna riding of tho Waitemata County, would bo included in tho amount credited to tho committee's fund, making a total of £IB9O. It was explained that the reason for tho increase was that since the borough of Takapuna had withdrawn from tho -Metropolitan Committee, relief workers in the riding had been unabla to obtain any further assistance from the committee, and the Mayor of Takapuna had refused also to recognise them as entitled to participate in his fund. It was decided that tho men in tho Takapuna riding should receive tho same benefits as given to other men entitled to the assistance of tho committee. Distribution at Depot Tho report of the officer in charge of the depot stated that tho departmental figures showed that during tho past two weeks 131 men had left Auckland for various camps. During that period tho depot had issued 47 pairs of boots, 408 blankets, 313 denims, 330 shirts, 154 singlets, 624 pairs of socks and 58 pairs of underpants. The total number of boots issued since the depot was opened was 6565 pairs, of which 3650 pairs were supplied at half-cost and the remainder were issued free to campers. A total of 4000 men in camps had received assistance from the committee. The treasurer's statement showed that since the last meeting receipts had amounted to £684, including £SOO from the Prosperity Fund, £lO5 on account of clothing and blankets supplied and £35 from the boot repairing depot. This brought the total receipts to £14,944. Accounts paid had totalled £11,591 and after outstanding accounts and commitments were met, thero would be a surplus of £3075, of which £2500 was on deposit. It was also reported that since the last meeting 439 pairs of footwear had been received at tho boot depot for repairs. Boot Depot Manager The thanks of the committeo were extended to Mr. L. Marks for his services as manager of the boot-repairing depot. It was stated that Mr. Marks had expressed a desire to be relieved of this post. In moving that the thanks of the committee be extended to Mr. Marks, the chairman, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, said that his services had been of the greatest assistance in establishihg and conducting the depot, particularly in the matter of the purchase of materials, of which he had special knowledge. In order to enable relief workers to have a change of working clothes, it was decided that any man entitled to the issue of clothes at half-price should be allowed to purchase two shirts, two singlets and two pairs of underpants.
