MR. FORBES IN LONDON
ROUND OF SPEECHES ADDRESS ON DEFENCE V [from our own correspondent] LONDON, July 21 The Prime Minister of New Zealand, the lit. Hon. G. TV. Forbes, accepted an invitation from the House of Commons group of the British Empire Parliamentary Association early this week to address its members on affairs generally in New Zealand. The gathering was a private one, but was well attended by prominent members of the British Parliament. Mr. Forbes spoke of the economic and financial position of New Zealand, showing particularly the effects of the depression and the measures that had had been taken to overcome them as far as possible. He spoke of the hopes that New Zealand had had of great results from the World Conference in the raising of produce prices, and he also dealt with the disastrous effects that any imposition of quota restrictions on dairy produce would have on tho country. _ Mr. Forbes on Wednesday addressed tho Imperial Defence College on defence matters in New Zealand. This college is for senior officers who are being trained for higher posts. Mr. Forbes deSlt with tho part that New Zealand is playing in Empire defence. On the evening of the same day Mr. Forbes was the guest at the M.C.C. dinner to Mr. Jardine, and he was called upon to respond to tho toast of the Dominion of Now Zealand. This gathering was also of a private nature, but there were references in tho Times next day to tho happy speech which Mr. Forbes had delivered.
