Hall-Jones, of Wellington, is visiting Auckland and is at the Station Hotel. Miss F. A. Stevens, GonvHle, Wanganui, is spending the school vacation in Auckland. Lady Mary Wheeler leaves to-day by the Monowai on her return to England after-visiting New Zealand. Mrs. .T. R. Kingston, Princes Street, is visiting Christchurch, and is tlio guest of Mrs. Ivan Wood, Beverley Street. Mrs. E. J. Bassett and Miss Molly Bassett, Pownall Street, Masterton, are the guests of Mrs. B. Bassett, Remuera, Auckland. i Miss 11. Blanker and Miss M. R. McCormick, of the teaching stalf of the Wanganui Girls' College, are visiting Auckland. Mrs. G. Craig, who has been in Auckland during the sittings of thc\ Tariff Commission, of which her husband, Dr. Craig, is chairman, has returned to Wellington. Miss Read presided at a recent meeting of the Ponsonby branch of the W.C.T.U. Major Gordon gave an address entitled "The Challenge to Women To-day." The annual bring and buy sale of the Henderson branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held this week. A short business session was held and delegates were appointed for the convention in September. An enjoyable dance was held bv the • Old Coromandel County Boys and Girls' Association in the Druids' Hall. Newton, about 200 members and their friends being present. An exhibition of tap dancing was given by Miss Oakes and Miss MeAlpine. Prizes for five hundred were won by Mrs. ,o'Rorkp and Miss M. McNeil (equal), and Mr. T. Martin. The committee of the Columba Social Club were the organisers of a successful dance, which was held in the Columba Hall, Grev Lynn, last week. The hostesses were Mrs. G. F. Cossev and Mrs. W. Sarney, and the judges of fancy costumes were Mrs. Sandlant, Mrs. C. J. Parkinson and Miss Z. Spry. Prizes were won by Miss F. Heard, representing a ladv's maid, and Mrs. Morgan, a coster girl. The proceeds from the dance aro to" be donated to the Sunshine Camp fund. A bridge party in aid of the house fund of the Auckland branch of the National Council of Women was held in the council's rooms, Victoria Street West, last week. The house committee, Mesdames A. Turner (convener), H. I Colwell, C. Dickens, M. Dewing, R. i Grieve', <7. T. Mitchell, N. Neilsen, P. Heath-Preest, R. Smyth and Miss M. H. Baggett, was responsible lor the success of the evening. Among the players were Mesdames H. Maddox, E. Soden, Townsend, Gilfillan, E. Bell, K. Arnes, de Montalk, Ready. R. Martin, Grace, E. M. Axford, Honeycombe, Misses D. Wickham and R. Hobbs. The Whangarei Ladies' Gardening Club held' a very successful afternoon for the benefit of the unemployment fund, the sum of 10 guineas being raised. Mrs. J. H. Nicholls. the president, welcomed the visitors. Mrs. W. Jones, Mayoress, explained the object of the sale, and drew tho attention of those present to the large amount of distress in the district. Tne afternoon was devoted to the sale of produce, afternoon tea, and guessing The latter were won bv Mrs. Home, Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. Nicholls. Of the £lO 10s realised £8 10s has been handed over to tho Ladies' Relief Committee, the balance being retained to provide prizes for a gardening competition among the unemployed. Tho weekly concert arranged by Mrs. Raeburn and Mr. Hamblin was held in AVard 22A of tho Auckland Hospital. An excellent programme wns provided by Mrs. Boylo and Miss Kathleen Boyle's concert party, consisting of songs, choruses, ducts, dancing and many ■ other items. Those taking part were Misses Patricia Boyle, Kathleen Bo\le, Joyce Chapman, Norma Jones, Miriam Jeffers, Melva Merchant, Daisy Jones, Jean Martin, Dorothy Everson, Pattie Christmas, Master Noel Matlieson and Mr. Ron Everson. Mrs. Boyle was tho accompanist. The concert party afterward went to the Myers Kindergarten and gave a performance in aid of the cocoa fund. The Mangapai Social Club held one of tho most successful dances experienced in Mangapai for some years. Excellent music was supplied by an orchestra from Whangarei, extras being played Mrs. B. Finlayson. Those present were: Mrs. P. Carter, Mrs. S. Ormandy, Mrs. B. Finlayson. Mrs. C. Cotton, Mrs. A. King, Mrs. G. Gulbransen. Mrs. A. Hayward, Mrs. A. Cavave, Mrs. J. Finlayson, Mrs. A. E.
