DEATH IN HOSPITAL . »i v • t COLLISION AT WHANGAREI [by tfxegraph—OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI. Friday The death occurred at the Whangarei Hospital early this morning of Mrs. Eunice Emily Mary Gordon, aged 53 years, of Taoroa, Taihape, who was injured in a collision between a motorcar and a train at a level crossing on the Kamo Road, Whangarei, on Wednesday. An inquest was opened this morning before the district coroner, Mr. H. C. Hemphill. Evidence of identification was given by David George Gordon, farmer, of Taoroa, husband of deceased. He said his wife left home two weeks ago on a holiday visit to her brother at Marua. She was'then in good health. Dr. P. C. E. Brunette, of the Whangarei Hospital, said that deceased was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday and died this morning at 4.30 without recovering consciousness. Death was due to a fracture of the base of the skull, lacerations to the brain and shock. The inquest was adjourned sine die. Mrs. Gordon was a member of a well-known Taranaki family and was born in Taranaki,'her mother being still resident in Pa tea. Deceased leaves seven children, whoso ages range from 15 to 25 years.
