CHAIRMAN RESIGNS
CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB OF DECISION [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CIIEISTCHURCH. Friday The chairman of the Canterbury Jockey Club, Mr. George Gould, today advised tho secretary of the club that he wished to resign from that position as from the end of the present month. / In a statement to-day Sir. Gould denied that his reason for resigning was the recent decision of the club to reduce the annual subscription from £5 os to £3 3s. He said his principal reason for resigning was a desire to save Mrs. Gould from tho effort of supervising the social side of meetings, the strain of which was too great. Mr. Gould will retain the position of treasurer of the club.
After a discussion lasting two hours tho Canterbury Jockey Club decided last week by 49 votes to 35 to reduce the annual subscription from £5 5s to £3 3s. Mr. Gould, who is also treasurer, opposed the motion, stating ho feared that the finances of the club would not bear any reduction of income.
