FALSE FORTUNE STORY

FARM LABOURER DECEIVED Stated to have deceived a farm labourer by telling him that an aunt had left him a small fortune and some property, William Frederick Bourne aged 25, described as a chef, was sentenced to three years' penal servitude at Reading, England recently, for obtaining £2O by false pretences. Prosecuting counsel said that Bourne called at the house of Mrs. Reginald Clarke, and told her that her husband's aunt had died leaving him £25,000 and five cottages. The husband was brought from work and Bourne told him he was acting in the matter, and offered to lend him £l3 toward the transfer fee. Clarke borrowed £2O and gave it to Bourne. The whole story Was a complete fabrication. Bourne asked that 29 similar cases should be taken into consideration, and declared that he would make reparation when released.
