WATERFRONT ROAD
CONDITION OF CLIFFS DANGER. TO BE REMOVED EARLY SETTLEMENT EXPECTED "1 understand the Public Works De« partment is now ready and willing to put the cliffs on the waterfront road in order, so there is a possibility that the whole matter will soon be settled and dedication of the road can be accepted," said Mr. H. P. Burton, chairman of the Works Committee of the City Council, at the meeting of the council last evening. Negotiations have been in progress between the council and the department concerning the safety of the'cliffs along the portion of the road between Mission * Bay and Kohimarama. When it was found that no satisfaction could be ob-.. tained from the department -the council passed a resolution disclaiming responsible bility for this portion of the road and calling on the department to complete the work. Mr. Burton said when-the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, was in Wellington last week he discussed th« matter with the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. J. Bitchener, and there now seemed a reasonable chance .of the difficulty being settled satisfactorily. He understood the Public Works engineer in Auckland, Mr. F. Dyson, had been authorised to meet the city engineer, ' Mr. J. Tyler, to discuss the question. * The deputy-mayor, Mr. A. J. Entrican, who presided, said members would be very pleased to see this difference satisfactorily settled.
