THE NEW UTOPIA
Sir, —It having been claimed that purchasing power can be increased by raising wages without regard to the vuluo of labour's output, would it not be well if the benefits claimed were extended to other classes? I am a grazier, and with fat stock at present rates my profits are small and my purchasing power deplorably low. As the butchers are a reasonable body of men, no doubt if the case was clearly put before them, they would see tho wisdom of doubling tho' prices they pay for stock; that ■would greatly increaso my purchasing power and enable me to buy more meat and help trade in many ways.- But why not complete the job when we are at it? The draper, the grocer and all the clan are suffering from a shortage of purchasing power, so let ns double their prices and thus bring prosperity to all. In the old benighted days we believed that we had to earn our money before getting it. We know better now; a. stroke of the pen gives us all the credit we require, and then all Ave need to do is to make known our wants —the machines will do the rest. Rustic
