Mr. and Mrs. D. H. S. lliddiford, of Feathcrston, who have been.on a brief visit to Auckland, returned south last evening.

Lieutenant-Commander P. R. Airey, of H.M.S. Diomede, and Mrs. Airey will sail to-day by the Rangitiki on their return to England.

Mr. McCarthy Atkinson, of tlie Indian police, Madras, and Mrs. Atkinson, have arrived in Auckland and are at tho Hotel Stonehurst.

Lieutenant R. J. H. Ryan, and Lieutenant C. W. Jones, of H.M.S. Dioir.ede, aro passengers by the Rangitiki, which will leave Auckland to-day for London.

Captain V. A. C. Crutchley, V.C., who has relinquished cominard of H.M.S. Diomede, and Mrs. Crutchley will leave by the Rangitiki to-day for London.

Professor J. Rankine Brown was unanimously elected president of the New Zealand Numismatic Society at the annual meeting held in .Wellington this week.

Mr. Marcus Maingay, of the Survey Department, Nairobi, Kenya, who has been on a visit to his parents at port, went south on Wednesday evening and sailed by the Wanganella from Wellington yesterday on his return to Africa.

Canon Grant Cowen, who has been seriously ill for some months:, has now returned to Auckland. Special thanksgiving services for his recovery are to bo held in St. Matthew's Church on 1 Sunday, when Archdeacon Mac Murray will conduct the morning service and Canon Grant Cowen will preach :in tho evening..

Mr. and Mrs. Eliot Darin relumed to Auckland by the Rangita.ne yesterday after two years' absence in Eng. land. They spent much time in London with Mr. Davis' father, Mr. Moss Davis, until his death some months ago. Mr. Davis went to Denmark fcir the purpose of inquiring into dairy farming methods there, and also" visited France.

Mr. A. J: Dixon, sub-inspector of the Bank of New Zealand, who has retired after over 46 years' service, was farewelled this week by the head office staff and suburban Wellington managers. Mr. F. W. Dawson, assistant general manager, presented Mr. Dixon with a wireless set. Mr. Dixon joined the service of the bank at Ross, and has been manager at Marton, Napier, and Gisborne, going from Gisborne to the head office in 1929.

Brigadier Horace Dodd, of the Salvation Army, arrived from Colon by j the Rangitane yesterday on his way to . revisit his birthplace in South Australia. Brigadier Dodd, who lately retired after a number of years; in charge of men's social work in Newark, New Jersey, left Australia 29 years ago for service in Japan'during the RussoJapanese War. He was sent the:nce to France and has spent the paist 26 years in the United States. He was met by Brigadier A. Greene, of Wellington, with whom he will leave for the south to-day. .' V
