REDUCTIONS IN CHARGES ; INCREASE IN CONSUMERS [from our own correspondent] TE AROHA, Wednesday In a statement placed before the tThames Valley Power Board yesterday showing the financial position for the quarter ended June 30, the manager, Mr. It. Sprague, showed that the revenue was £33,311, while expenditure amounted to £34,877. Notwithstanding the debit, the position for tho quarter showed,an improvement over the figures for the corresponding quarter last year. The total number of consumers was 8561'. Those in the Thamesi and Ta Aroha boroughs were included in these figures arid numbered 1115 aii;d 710 re- •», spectively. Fifty-seven lighting and 'hating consumers were connected durmonth, and 34 motors on farms, of which 15 were milking motors. There were now connected and operating 677 electric ranges, 2463 water-heaters and 3409 motors on farms, of which 2230 ;werß milking motors. The wiring department had been exceptionally busy during the past month. The increase in electricity sales for the quarter amounted to £1316, and with the exception of street lighting all services had shown increases. Power purchases have not shown any increase, notwithstanding the large increase in the connected load for the year. This appeared to be due to the condensers, and the balancing of the load. The following recommendations from the special meeting of the Finance Committee - were adopted:—That the charges for electricity be subject to the following reductions: Lighting, from 7Jd a unit (net) to 7d (not);; milking and farm motors, from first 40 units per horse-power at 5d to first 30 units at sd. These rates to become effective as from September 1. These figures represent a reduction of £1525 for lighting and £3312 for milking find farm motors, making an annual reduction of £4837. That tho board accept the Unemployment Board's offer of 37s 6d a I week subsidy in respect of constructing lines in the board's area.
