LIQUOR ILLEGALLY SOLD
STOREKEEPER FINED £IOO OFFENCE NEAR TAUPO PREMISES RAIDED BY POLICE [HV TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] TAUPO, Thursday A charge of selling liquor without a licence was denied in the Magistrate's Court, Taupo, by Hannah Joseph Habib, storekeeper, of Oruanui. Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., was on the Bench. Evidenco was brought to show that accused had sold seven bottles of ale at 2s 6d each and during 12 weeks prior to June 10 had purchased a total of 480 bottles of ale from a brewery in Hastings. On June 10 accused's premises were raided by Constable drown, of Taupo, and Constable Butler, of Tokaanu, and 92 bottles of ale were found in his possession. Habib's defence was that the ale was purchased for his own consumption. Accused was convicted and fined £IOO and ordered to pay costs amounting to £9 10s Gd.
