NAPOLEON'S LOVE LETTERS SALE OF ROSEBERY LIBRARY LONDON. July 25 At the sale of the late Earl of Rosebery's library, eight early love letters which Napoleon wrote to Josephine realised £4400. The letters, which were stained and faded, were written between 1798 and 1800. They were full of passionate phrases protesting Napoleon's devotion to "my sweet incomparable Josephine." The sale of Napoleonic relics realised £13,000. This sum included £IOOO for a letter addressed to the Empress Marie Louise when Napoleon left Elba.
