OFFENCE BY LABOURER MISTAKE ABOUT RECORD "When the case was last heard, an unfortunate mis-statement was made, the police saying my client had been convicted of breaking and entering and theft," stated Mr. Schramm on behalf nf Percy Arthur Over, labourer, aged who appeared for sentence before Air. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the. Police Court yesterday, on a charge of stealing a valve grinder valued at £3, the property of A. S. Joyce. Mr. Schramm said his client had not previously been convicted, but ho had been admonished and discharged. Accused was a married man on relief work. Detective-Sergeant McHugh said counsel's comment was correct. The police records were at faidt in saying accused hud boon convicted. .Accused was admitted to probation i'/ir 12 months. A ship's fireman, Robert William Spencer Ballantyne, aged 35, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing three tins of tobacco valued at'ss (3d, tho property of Barney Elias. Accused, whowas fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment, said he acted on an impulse, for ho entered the shop to buy tobacco.
