THEFT AT MOUNT ALBERT
TWO SUSPECTS REMANDED I COMMENT BY MAGISTRATE The two men suspected of breaking / ind entering a grocer's shop at 75 Tajlor's Road, Mount Albert, who were arrested by detectives following a telephone message from a resident of the district, appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Folice Court yesiterday. The accused, Leslie Dickson, labourer, aged 27 (Mr. L. Adams), and Leonard Spencer Teehan, motor driver, aged 20 (Mr. Walker), were charged with breaking and entering the shop of C. H. Cornish by night and stealing cigarettes and canned foodstuffs to the value of £4. , Asking for bail for his client, Mr. Walker said Teehan was a young man whose wife was in a delicate state of health. Accused, who was a relief worker, had made a full statement to tho police, and it was not a question of a series of offences. "There have been too many of these / cases lately," s.?id tho magistrate. "They have been going on nearly every night. I never allow bail in such cases, and these two men were caught redhanded." Detective-Sergeant McHugh: They were. Teehan's wife is being cared ;for Mr her mother. Accused were remanded until August ?. Tho application for bail was refused and the magistrate also declined to suppress Teehan's name.
