MISSION HOUSE TROUBLE
MAORI WOMAN'S ACTIONS OLD REVOLVER PRESENTED [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI, Monday In the Police Court this morning, a Maori woman, Wi Hongi, admitted that at Whakapara she wilfully damaged windows of the Mission House, Whakapara, was in possession of a revolver without being tho registered owner, and unlawfully presented the firearm at Louis Davis. Senior-Sergeant Powell said there had been ill-feeling among tho natives in tho locality. On tho day in question there was a service at tho Mission Hall, where accused smashed the windows with a batten. On tho previous day accused presented tho revolver at Davis. Tho weapon was an old one, but was still a firearm under tho Act. Accused tried to frighten Davis. She considered she was entitled to tho ownership of tho property. Accused read a lengthy statement, in which sho set out her claim to the Mission Hall property. Tho magistrate, Mr. G. N. Morris, said tho matter was 0110 for the Native Land Court if there was any dispute as to ownership. Accused could not go on in this manner, smashing windows and pointing a revolver at a person. She would not get tho revolver back. Accused said tho revolver was an old relic of her family and they wished it to bo presented to tho Whangarei Museum. Accused was fined £1 011 the charge of presenting the revolver and ordered to pay costs on tho other charge, totalling £3 2s.
