GROUP QUEEN CONTEST RACING STAKES DONATION LORD VAL'S WINNINGS Contributions continue to be received for tho funds in connection with Prosperity Week. Amounts received and donations promised already total over £•1000 and over £4OO has been realised to date from tho penny drive. Committees working in tho interests of tho various candidates in tho group queen contest aro arranging numerous social and other functions for tho next fortnight. Tho sports queen, Miss Shirley Watkins, had her candidature strongly supported by tho success of Lord Val when ho ran third in tho July Handicap at Ellerslio on Saturday. Before the raco, tho owner, Mr. A. H. Long, of Kaingaroa, told tho trainer and rider, H. N. Wiggins, of his intention to dovoto any prize winnings to the sports queen fund. Lord Val ran a fino raco and finished third. This returned £3O in stakes and, after the deduction of riding fee and nomination and acceptance payments, tho balance of tho stake money will bo given to tho fund. A shop window display is being organised in conjunction with Prosperity Week and it is expected that largo entries will bo received from tho main shopping thoroughfares of tho city, to which the contest is confined. Entries, which closo on July 29, will be grouped into five sections, one section being for displays of New Zealandmado goods. Tho entries will bo judged on August 1, but boforo tho announcement of tho results, the public will have tho opportunity of entering a competition to estimate tho judges' placings. The competition will ho conducted by tho Junior Chamber of Commerce. MAYOR'S SUBSCRIPTION LIST A DDITIONAI, CONTRIBUTIONS Donations to tho Mayor's fund in connection with tho Prosperity Week appeal received yesterday totalled over £l5O, including a contribution of £IOO from New Zealand Breweries, Limited, and £25 from the Amber Tips Tea Company.
