UNITY OF EMPIRE
NEVER BE ISOLATION " SIR E. CLARK'S OPINION COLOMBO, July ,13 "The British Empire will not become economically isolated if tho World Economic Conference fails," said Sir Ernest Clark, Governor-designate of Tasmania, in an interview when he arrived here to-day. "There will never be isolation in the sense that wo had it beforo," ho added. If the conference failed, the Empire as a result of the Ottawa pacts, must be brought closer into one economic unit. That did not mean isolation, because preference was not the only factor in economic unity. The Empire was like a large globule of mercury, drawing to it the smaller globules around. America's final intentions, Sir Ernest said, were entirely obscure to economists.
