The latter batted first and made 243 runs (Dobson 126). Achong took six wickets for 108. West Indies in their first innings had made 61 for three wickets when play ceased for the day.
The match at Derby was drawn. The West Indians scored 281 and 346 for eight wickets, declared. Derbyshire made 319 and 125 for five wickets (Skinner 68). G. Headlev was top-scorer for the Indians with 200 not out. This was his second double-century within a week, as he had compiled 224 not out against Somerset. Warwickshire v. Surrey.—Warwickshire: First innings, 401 (Bates 72, Santall 71); second, two for 167. Surrey: First innings, 457 (Hobbs 100, Gregory 92). Surrey won on the first innings.
Essex v. Sussex.—Essex: First innings, 259 (Cornford six for 66); second, six for 297, declared (Cutmore 117). Sussex: First innings, 150 (Nichols five for 67, Daer four for 36); socond, 112 (Nichols five for 37, Daer five for 39). Essex won by 294 runs.
Gloucester v. Glamorgan.—Gloucester: First innings, 529 (Hammond 239); second, one for 104, declared (Dacre 62 not out). Glamorgan: First innings, 454 (Turnbull 122, Duckfield 128 not out): second, three for 63. Gloucester won on the first innings. Northants v. Yorkshire.—Northants: First innings, 27 (Maeaulay seven for 9, Verity three for 15);' second, 68 (Maeaulay four for 25, Bowes four for 20).
