HAMILTON, Saturday
A conference of delegates representing more than 2000 relief workers in South Auckland districts was held in Hamilton yesterday to discuss matters affecting the welfare of those without permanent employment.
Air. C. Parsons, president of the Hamilton Unemployed Workers' Movement, presided. He said increasing inroads were being made on the relief workers' standard of living, especially in the country, and to improve their position an efficient and widespread organisation was necessary. He urged the delegates to consider the various aspects of the situation from as wide a view as possible.
It was decided that the delegates should return to their various organisations and recommend that a district council be formed embracing tho whole of the South Auckland districts.
A resolution was carried protesting against the differentiation in the allocations in country districts, and demanding the full allocation each week and the abolition of stand-down weeks. Among other resolutions carried wero ones expressing the opinion that no relief worker should accept camp work except under standard wages, and under no circumstances should compulsion be applied, and that all unemployed workers' organisations should be represented on local unemployment committees.
