TELEGRAPHIC MATCH AUCKLAND AND WELLINGTON The first matches in tho inter-provincial telegraphic tournament were commenced on Saturday evening, when a team of 20 Auckland players met a Wellington team. Play in Auckland was held in a room at tho chief post office, commencing at G. 30 and terminating at 11. The matches will be completed next Saturday evening, and unfinished games will be subject to adjudication. The teams are as follows:—Auckland: D. J. Jones, A. Pickett, H. D. Addis, I. Burry, J. F. Sullivan, C. C. Roberts, H. Lees, E. King, C. G. Lennard, C. P. Bclton, R. Barker, R. E. Baeyertz, H. S. Symonds, H. Roskilly, G. H. Edwards, F. A. McKillop, A. B. Dallow, C. A. Langabeer, F. K. Chipman, E. R. Jones. Wellington: E. A. Hicks, G. P. Anderson, A. W. Gyles, W. E. Mason, F. K. Kelling, G. Wigham, 11. Godtschalk. W. C| White, A. T. Craven, J. C. McCrea, W. J. Fairburn. R. C. Sim. J Otto, A. E. Jessup, J. L. Hardy, H. G. Thompson, R. A. Godtschalk, R. G. Didsbury, E. J. Dyer, F. F. Grady. Tho Auckland team was captained by Mr. 11. Oakley Browne, president of the Auckland Chess Club, the umpire at Auckland for Wellington was Mr. C. 11. Black, and the umpire for Auckland at Wellington Dr. Myers. On Saturday evening matches between Canterbury and Otago were commenced and the North Island winners will meot tho South Island winners at a later date.
