TUAKAU TOWN BOARD

RESIGNATION OF CHAIRMAN [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] TUAKAU, Friday The chairman of the Tunkau Town Board, Mr. A. H. Tapper, tendered his resignation from the board to-day. Mr. Tapper was elected to the board at the biennial election in September last and was appointed to the chair at the first meeting. Prior to the election ho had been for some 18 years clerk to the board. i Mr. Tapper said the reason for his resignation was that the board, against his wishes, increased the salary of the clerk by £25 per annum. Previously he had expressed the opinion that the salaries and wages of the board's employees should not be raised. Ho had not yet decided whether he would be a candidate at the by-election.
