The intruders gained entry through a rear window in the building and made an unsuccessful attempt to open tho safe by explosives. Ihe door of the safe withstood the explosive charge, although the lock was blown off and the mechanism shattered. The intruders removed a sum of money from the till in tho shop, but, so far as is known, no stock was removed. Apparently the burglary was carried out on Saturday night, as a resident in an adjacent shop states that about 11 p.m. he heard a muffled explosion, but at the time took no further notice, thinking it was probably a motor tyre blow-out.
