GUILTY OF FORGERY
FARM HAND'S OFFENCE BANK WITHDRAWAL SLIP [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday A plea of guilty was entered in the Hamilton Police Court to-day by Herbert Watson, aged 21, a farm hand. (Mr. A. G. Ward), to a charge of forging tho name of A. J. Terry to a post office savings bank withdrawal slip for the payment of £25. Dr. F. D. Pinfold and Mr. J. H. Gittos, J.P.'s, presided. Evidence was given by Alan J. Terry that accused worked with him on a farm at Te Awamutu in October, 1932. Accused disappeared and witness missed his post office savings bank book. He said the signature on tho withdrawal slip produced was not written by him. Stanley Donnelly, a post office clerk, Hamilton, said that on October 10, 1932, accused produced a withdrawal slip signed "A. J. Terry." Witness told accused that the signature did not tally with the signature held in the office. Accused was asked about the position of Terry's account, and his statements did not tally with the records in the office. Witness said ho was dissatisfied with accused's statements and reported the matter. When he returned to the counter accused had disappeared. An admission by accused that he had forged Terry's name on the slip was produced by Detective-Sergeant Thompson.
Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
