A WIN FOR TIRONUI INCIDENTS AT MOOREFIELD ARGUMENT OVER BETTING [FROM UUll OWN COIUIESrONDHNT] SYDNEY, May 11 Tironui <i|>ericcl his winning account for J. T. Jamieson at Moorefield on Saturday, but it was practically impossible to back him. He opened at pronounced odds-on in ii very weak maiden handicap division, and lack of support saw the price improve a little. Jamieson did not fancy Tironui greatly and was content to let him win. Tironui was hunted out of the barrier by E. Bartle and led all (he way. Panjandrum, Closinc Time and \ ovacer are booked for a trip to Queensland next week, but Jamieson is still undecided whether they will go. All , depends upon how Panjandrum and Closing Time shape at Tattersall's meeting at Randwick on Saturday. ~ . . , W. Stone's two charges. Counterplav find Manchu, continue to do well at Hand* wick. Countcr])lay is fairly forward, and if he handles the right-handed way round effectively he should win a race earlv m his Sydney career. Manchu is coming on very fast and is a solid type. Both horses have settled down well, and if Counterplav was u tearaway in New Zealand ho is ouiet enough at Randwick. Cnracoa, trained by J. T. Jamieson. was ono of the beaten division at Mooreneld on Saturday. The Tippler filly showed some pace, but was not really going like a< winner over trie last three furlongs. There was some excitement before the Flying Handicap at Moorefield on Saturday. When going out of lhe birucace tho well-backed Dunerc threw the apprentice D. Lightfoot. who sprained his wrist, lhe diminutive T. Mortimer, with a 7lb allow-, ance, was substituted. and when at the "barrier Dunerc threw him right into the tapes. Mortimer rebounded unhurt and waft legged up again. He jumped Dunerc well a way, and handling his mount admirably, the combination won well. The New Zealand-bred Greenawav broke down during the running of tho Mooreneld Handicap. She has been more or less under a cloud for some time, but has paid her way in Sydney. Stately and .Forestry wero other New Zealand failures in the race. Forestry raced fairly well for a mile. Truesign, a smart four-year-old mare by Heroic from the New Zealand-bred Lovesign, followed up a second at Mooreneld with a success at Ascot on Wednesday. Truesign can gallop but she has not been easy to train. She is certainly bred on soeedv lines. , , ... , The old argument about betting when a well-supported candidate is withdrawn was reopened at Moorefield last Saturday. It was tho concluding event and the race was almost due to stnrt when the stewards ordered Eton Lady's withdrawal on account of lameness, declaring her a non-starter. The bookmakers claimed that as second favourite. the returning of Eton Lady s investments disorganised their books and they claimed that the stewards should have ordered the cancellation of betting and a fresh start. Obviously this would have been unfair to supporters of horses who had received long prices. These would not have been forthcoming at the second round of betting Investors countered that bookmakers have nothing to say when horses ire in the hands and are withdrawn With bets losft. Therefore it seems to be IUBt the luck of tho game and cuts both ways. NEW ZEALAND HORSE TEA TRADER IN AMERICA SPECIAL MATCH ARRANGED (Received May 16, 5.25 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO. PLANS FOR BILLY BOY NOMINATED AT FLEMINGTON It was announced eome time ago that Billy Boy was likely to be taken to r Mel-' bourne after tie Great Northern Meeting at Ellerslie, and the trip is still being kept in Mew by his trainer, R. W. A. Lewis. Billy Boy has been nominated for the Grand National Steeplechase at the Victoria Racing Club's Meeting, to be li»M at Flemington on .Tuly 1, 5 and 8. The race is run on the third day of the meeting over a distance of three miles and a furlong and carries a stake- of £"2500, the winner's portion being £1750. It is improbable that any final decision will be made until it is seen how Billy Boy is weighted and how lie comes through his racing at Ellerslie, where lie will not have more than two races, the Great Northerns, if present intentions are adhered to. The handicaps arc to be declared not later than Monday. May 29. and the maximum handicap weight is to be not moro than 12.7, while provision is also to be made for penalties. TAKANINI TRACK-WORK HOLLY LU'S FIVE FURLONGS The weather was fine but the track still holding at Takanini yesterday, when tho outside of the grass track was in use. Gastronomy. Substation and Musgo were in that ord.er at tho end of five furlongs in 1.5. Gastronomy improved considerably on his previous effort and Substation also per* foi-med satisfactorily. Holly Lu, with a. considerable advantage in the weights, was a length in front of Greek Gold at the end of five furlongs smartly run in 1.3. Holly Lu has been doing his work well. Diversion ran the last half-mile of her work in 57s without being extended. She appears to be in good order. Royal Artist and Sileedmint ran five furlongs in 1.5, both doing their work in fine style. Speedmint looks very bright and should race well in coming engagements. Kind Words and Bugle Call were on terms over five furlongs in 1.7 1-5, without being asked for their best. Kind Words appears to act well in the heavy going. The Hiker (Walters) and Ragardez (Crow ley) were sent over four hurdles on tho course proper. The Hiker fenced well, but Regarded spoiled a good effort when he fell at the Inst hurdle. True Blood (Grice) and Principal (McIlioy) gave a good display over four hurdles, being together practically all the way. Truo Blood is expected to raco prominently at Te Rapa. The following horses are due to leave for the, Te Kuiti meeting at the week-end:— Royal Artist, Diversion. Speedmint. The Hiker, Substation. True Blood, Kind Words. Musgo, Regardcz, Principal, Holly Lu and Thcspis. • TROTTING AT ROTORUA SATURDAY'S ACCEPTANCES [by TEIiEGIIArH —PHKSS association] ROTOHUA, Tuesday Acceptances for flic ' Rotorua Trotting Club's inaugural" (non-totalisutor) meeting next Saturday are as follows: RQTOITI HANDICAP, of £2O: limit 3.51; 1J mile.s'. —Bingen Bell, Rose Marble, limit; Wiriwhnta. 108 yds bhd; Kohewnh, 156: Dark McKinney, 21G; Explosion, 240.
