CO-ORDINATION SYSTEM ROAD SERVICES RESTRICTED WAIUKU AND NEW BRIGHTON Bus services between Waiuku and Auckland, arid New Brighton and Auckland, via C levedon, wiII in future be co-ordinated with the railway service at Psipakura, applications by two bus proprietors having been granted in these terras by the No. 2 Licensing Authority yesterday, when deferred decisions were announced by the chairman, Mr. J. A. C. Alluin. The system w ill he -adopted almost immediately.. On Saturdays and Sundays, however, through bus services will be run, and in the case of the Waiuku service the route has been amended.

ihe original applications, by P. V Flexman for the "Waiuku-Auckland service, and Mrs. L. Woodcock for the New Brighton-Auckland service, were for renewals of expiring licences, but proposals by the Railway Board for co-ordination at Papalcura were accepted by the bus proprietors. Formerly the buses were permitted to run to Auckland, but were not allowed to carry passengers whose journey both began and ended on the Great South Road.

"The evidence of the railway representative, Mr. G. T. Wilson, has satisfied the authority that the railway service from Papakura to Auckland is sufficient to meet the reasonable n£<eds of the travelling public," said Mr. Allum in announcing the decision concerning the Waiuku service.

Another application, by F. G. Parker, to run a service from Vaiuku, was refused as the applicant did not accept the Railway Board's co-ordination plan. ROUTE OF PUKEKOHE BUSES TERMINAL AT PAPA Kill A PPG ED Further proposals for co-ordination were advanced by Mr. Wilson, on behalf of the Railway Department, when application for renewal of a licence for a bus service between Pukekohe and Auckland was made by Auckland Provincial Bus Company to the No. 2 Licensing Authority yesterday. On behalf of the bus company Mr. Goulding called considerable evidence to show that the, bus service was essential to the welfare of the districts served. In a. statement the Railway Board's representative proposed that the bus service should be co-ordinated with the railway at Papakura. He said there were nine train and 10 bus trips daily from Pukekohe to Auckland and 18 train and 14 bus trips from Papakura to Auckland. Except between Pukekohe and Papakura the buses ran quite close to the railwav.

"The discontinuance of the bus service to Auckland would be an absolute calamity to the Manurewa district," said Mr. Fleming, representing the Town Board. "I can say confidently that the business community of Papakura does not want the bus service interfered with," declared Mr. S. H. Godden, ■who quoted a resolution by the Papakura Chamber of Commerce opposing any restriction of the service.

Consideration of the application was adjourned until this morning.

THE PAFATOETOE SERVICE

SUGGESTED RESTRICTIONS

The restriction of bus services between Papato€'toe and Auckland -was urged by the Railway Department when application for renewal of its licence was made by the Passenger Transport Company to the No. 2 Licensing Authority. The proposals by the department were that at Papatoetoe no buses should run between St. George's and Carruth Roads and the railway station, none along Cornwall and Shirle;f Poads and that buses ria Onehunga should charge a penal fare between the station and Ashlynne Avenue; that the terminus at the Mangere station should be altered to Awa Street; that no buses should run at Otahuhu between Kahu Street and Great South Road; and at Penrose no buses should stop between Penrose Road and Green Park Road.

On behalf of the bus company Mr. Spencer said the company would be willing to fail in with the department's proposals at Papatoetoe as there were few passengers offering. Although willing to move the Mangere Crossing terminus. he suggested Golf Poad instead of Awa Street.

Opposition to the suggested restrictions was expressed by representatives of the Papatoetoe Town Board, the Otahuhu Borough Council, the Mount Wellington Road Board, the One Tree 13ill Borough Council and the Manukau County Council. Decision was deferred.
