NEW BUS TERMINAL

OBJECTIONS TO PROPOSAL CONFERENCE TO-MORROW A further conference between representatives of the bus proprietors, the Railway Department and the Mayor, proposed new bus terminal on the old railway station site, will he held to-morrow. At yesterday's sitting of the No. 2 Licensing Authority, further protests against the proposed site were expressed. "It will be seen from the proposed conference that the position is still open, said Mr. Meredith, representing the Railway Department, which objects to the terminal owing to its detrimental effect on land values. On behalf of the Passenger Transport Company, Mr. Spencer said the route leading to the new site was undoubtedly dangerous. As buses carried 3,000,000 passengers a year the inconvenience of the new site would be felt bj* a considerable number of people. The congestion at the; present Commerce Street terminal would be negligible were it not for the presence of a taxi stand.

J don't know of any bus proprietor who is in favour of the new site," said Mr. 11. Crawford, a proprietor. The route leading to the new terminal is from Beach Road into Britomart Place (formerly Breakwater Road), along Quay Street, then into Queen Street and through the road between Endean's Buildings and the post office. On the outward trip buses would enter Customs Street by- way of the Commerce Street extension.
