CHUKOR IN CANTERBURY

BIRDS THRIVING WELL At the annual meeting of tho Ashburton Acclimatisation Society it was stated that tho chukor, which were liberated foi the first time in New Zealand in the back country of Mr. R. C. Todhunter's Lake Heron Station in 1926, were thriving to a surprising degree. Coveys had been observed on Lake Heron, the Clent Hills, Barossa and Mount Possession, and on the south of the Rangitata River, at Ben McLeod, Rata Peaks, Mount Peel, and Mesopotamia. It was stated that it was hoped before long to issue licences to shoot chukor.
