CHAFF BEDS
COMFORTABLE AND HYGIENiC j Pillows and mattresses always form quite an item when preparing baby's outfit, especially if the mother determines that the cot bedding shall never be taken into the garden, and that thfi pram fittings must be kept fresh ready for walks abroad. It saves a lot of time and trouble if this is done, and yet, it seeniß extravagant to have two or three sets of pillows, in daily use. A Trilby King idea, however, jr to have a chaff mattress, which soon proves invaluable to those who use it. For a very small sum one can get enough chaff to make as many mattresses as can possibly bo needed, and ye'; have plenty over for renewing purposes. For the best thing about chaff is that it is so inexpensive that, should th' 3 bed become soiled, it is quite easy to empty out the old chaff and fill it with fresh. If you can buy proper bed chaff, all the better; but the ordinary ki.id does quite well provided that you go very carefully over it to remove the prickles and burrs. It should then be put on a tray and baked in the oven. Make some stout calico cover to fit cot or pram and put in enough chaff to just about half fill them. For the overlay mattress for the cot it will probably be best to put in even less, also fcr pillows. Then, when you put your mattress down, shake it about and make a nice little nest in the middle with your hand so that it is thoroughly comfortable. If property filled and shaken j up daily, a chaff mattress will never gat hard or lumpy .and can be just as 1 satisfactorily psecLby an adults
