RUGS FROM WASTE SCRAPS
USE FOR SUGAR BAGS The materials used for this work are sugar bags, old cardigans, stockings, or any soft, worn-out material, and a steel crochet hook, the largest size obtainable, or one made from a piece of fencing wire. Wash all the material and clye it the desired colours. Cut into strips from a quarter to an inch in width (according to the thickness of material being used) so that it will pull through the foundation easily. Get a sugar bag and cut it to the size and shape required. Tack all the rough edges clown, then mark the desigr: distinctly on to the sugar bag. Place the strips of material under the foundation, and pull through with tho steel hook to about half an inch high. Cor.tinue this method as closely as possible, working the colours into tho pattern as desired. When the whole of the foundation is covered clip off with sharp scissors. These clippings can be saved for filling mattresses or cushions. Line thei;e mats with hessian or sugar bags. Il: desired, a fringe can be made of wool on each end of the mats. Always start at the centre and work outward. This makes the work much easier to bardie.
