BALLOT FOR LAND

NORTH AUCKLAND SECTIONS TWO APPLICANTS SUCCEED Only two of the six applicants were successful in obtaining holdings at the ballot held yesterday by the North Auckland Land Board for six sections in the Mangakaretu block, 12 miles from Okaihau, North Auckland. The holdings offered were of fair quality gum land, ranging from 120 to over 200 acres, and it was considered that applicants should possess a certain amount of capital to utilise the land successfully. It was for this reason that four of the applications were rejected. The two successful applicants were husband and wife, Mr. and Mrs. W. Halse, who obtained adjoining lots of 120 acres and 127 acres, capable of being farmed either as separate holdings or as one property.
