LOCAL ELECTIONS
THE CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES ANNOUNCED MOST OF SITTING MEMBERS ' Of the 21 members of the Auckland City Council, 18 so far have indicated their intention to be candidates at the forthcoming election. Messrs. E. J. Phelan and B. Martin are among the J 8 candidates announced to contest the election in the Labour interests, and Mr. T. Bloodworth also has decided to stand again. An announcement has been made by the following members that, having asked the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, to seek re-election, they wish also to offer their services for a further term. —Misses A. Basten and E. Melville, and Messrs. M. J. Bennett, H. P. Burton, G. Grey Campbell, J. L. Coakley, M. P. Coyle, J. Donald, I). Donaldson, A. J. Entrican, 1). Henry, F.' H. Leonard, W. H. Murray, J. B. Paterson and G. L. Taylor. ONE TREE HILL CANDIDATES ALL THE PRESENT COUNCIL All the members of the Ono Tree Hill Borough Council, and the Mayor, Mr. I. J. Goldstiue, have been nominated for the coming election. The members of the council are Messrs. C. L. Slyfield, J. J. Boyce, M. J. Hooper, L. Mandeno, W. G. Mullholland and A. J. Pearce. Mr. W. G. Mullholland has been nominated for election as the council's representative on .the Hospital Board. MORRINSVILLE BOROUGH MAYORAL CONTEST UNLIKELY [from our own correspondent] MORRINSVILLE, Thursday The Mayor, Mr. U. T. Osborne, and all the six retiring councillors, Messrs. H. J. Barford, W. Hetherington, W. Morrice, F. A. Pickett, A. J. Skinner and J). Wilson, have been nominated for a further term on the Borough Council. There are not likely to be any further nominations for the JVV\yoralty, but it is considered certain that there will be more nominations for vacancies on the council. CONTEST AT WHANGAREI MR. R. S. FINCH TO STAND [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Thursday A large gathering of business men waited upon Mr. R. S. Finch yesterday and requested him to allow himself to be nominated for the .Mayoralty of Whangarei. The present Mayor, Mr. W. Jones, lias stated his intention to stand again. Mr. Crawford stated that the deputation was convinced that Mr. Finch could be relied upon to do everything possible for the benefit of Whangarei. Replying, Mr. Finch signified his willingness to stand.
