ATTACK ON ENGINEER
SEVERE GASH ON HEAD YOUNG MAN ARRESTED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Thursdny Struck on the head last evening by a man who stopped from behind a hedge, David Browning, an engineer, of 70 Hataitai Road, received a severe gash that required medical attention. Browning was going up the pathway leading to his house, which stands back about 25yds. from the road, and when ho was passing a hedgo a man stepped out and struck him. Browning was almost at his own back door when assaulted. When ho cried out, his attacker fled. Cyril Otto Foothead, aged 22, appeared in the Police Court to-day charged with assaulting Browning. De-tective-Sergeant Revel! said that Detectives Robinson and Gampin had prosecuted inquiries during the night, and at four o'clock this morning arrested the accused. Counsel for accused intimated that he intended to plead guilty. It was only fair to state that it was not a case of attempted robbery. There was much more in it than appeared on the surface. The police were granted a remand until April 26. Bail was fixed at £SO.
