WIFE ASSAULTED

RAROTONGAN CONVICTED "If you were not maintaining your wife 1 would send you to prison," said Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court on Thursday, when Aka Te Pau, aged 24, labourer, a native of Rarotonga, admitted assaulting his wife, Minnie Aka Te Pau. Detective-Sergeant Mcllugh said the police were called to accused's home ir> Grey's Avenue on April 8 and it was found that accused had assaulted his wife. He had pulled her round the room by the hair. When asked why he had committed the assault accused had said he wanted to go to gaol. Ho had since been in custody. Accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within six months if called upon.
