AWAPUNI ACTIVITIES HORSES FOR ELLERSLIE CALLAMART AND SENEGAL [from oto own correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH, Saturday Owing to the proximity of the Easter fixtures, activities at Awapuni were fairly brisk this morning, both the course proper and the plough being available. There will be local horses at Ellerslie. Feildhig, and Tauherenikau on Easter Saturday. L. Knapp goes to Auckland on Tuesday with Callamart and Senegal, both of whom are in good order This morning Callamart was sent ovor the brush doublo in tho bullring a couple of times by C. Thomson, who will pilot him in the Mangere Steeplechase. Callamart jumped very big, but this is not unusual when schooled alone. Senegal (Faulkner) had Mercian Princo (Voitre) as a partner over a mile. After a slow jump-away, they ran the first furlong in 14 l-ss. two in 27 2-ss, threo in 40 l-ss, five in 1.7 and tho full distance in 1.46 1-5. Senegal drew clear in tho straight to beat his companion home by a.cpuple of lengths. R. Reed will rido him in tho Eden Handicap. Pango (Strntton) and Pangolin (Thomsonh finished up their work with a half-milo' sprint on tho plough in 57 3-ss. Pango hav ing tho advantage at tho close. Kills Thornond (Voitre) and Freeze (Faulkner), two members of R. E. Hatch's increasing string, ran half a milo on the course proper in 52 4-ss. Tho first-nfimed was clear at tho close. Freeze, who has not raced since her two-year-old days, is a nice looking type. , Hunting Lodge' (Voitre) had the measure of Perimeter (Faulkner) at tho close of three' furlongs in 38 4-ss. Tho former will-not race at Easter, but Perimeter, who is a "Weathervane filly, will bo given an outing at Feilding. Sir Romeo (Thomson) ran nn easv halfmile, tho last three furlongs in 40s. while King Peg (Faulkner), who followed, broke 51s for four furlongs. King Peg is a brilliant track worker. . . Leisure (Reed) drew away from Chief Marionette (Bradley) at tho end of seven furlongs in 1.31 2-ss. tho first, furlong having been run in 13s, and tho 1 half-mile in 52 4-ss. Leisure was under a good hold for the major portion of tho journey. Henry of Navarro (Shannon) and Easterly (Chisholm) did a milo in 1.49 2-5. Arctic.
