SHIPPING APPOINTMENT
NEW ZEALAND COMPANY MR. C. M. TURRELL'S POST [bt telegraph—press association] CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday Mr. Charles M. Turrell, Dominion superintendent of the New Zealand Shipping Company, has been elected to the New Zealand board of the company. Ho will in future be designated general manager for New Zealand, which title, it is considered, moro clearly expresses the position he occupies. Mr. Turrell is one of the best known shipping men in the Dominion, with a record of service with the New Zealand Shipping Company of about 47 years. He is a son of the late Rev. Charles Turrell and was educated at his father's privato school, Midmont, Riccarton, and at Christ's College, Christchurch. After a short period as a cadet on a sheep station in Canterbury, Mr. Turrell entered the service of the New Zealand Shipping Company at Christchurch in 1885. He subsequently served in the company's offices at Lyttolton, Timaru, Oamaru, Napier, Auckland and Wellington. In 1914 Mr. Turrell was appointed acting-manager at Auckland and in tho following year . became assistant manager at Wellington. He was appointed manager for the company at Wellington in 1919, and afterwards assumed the additional duty of traffic manager for New Zealand. He was acting Dominion superintendent for the company for eight months during 1925 and again for ten months in 1929. He made special visits on behalf of the company to Fiji in 1901, to South Africa in 1902 and to England and America in 1926. Mr. Turrell was appointed Dominion superintendent of tho company in April, 1932.
