STRANGERS IN CAR

OWNER'S PROMPT ACTION THREE MEN DETAINED [by telegraph—press association] FOXTON, Monday Awakened at five o'clock yesterday morning by the sound of someone attempting to start his motor-car, Mr. P. Hart, who lives on the Foxton-Levin main highway, states that he found two men in his car, which he had left outside for the night. A third man was sitting in a waiting car, which had its engine running, and on seeing Mr. Hart the other two men made a rush to escape. They got into the other car, which, it later transpired, had been hired in Wellington, but Mr. Hart also managed to jump on to the running board. Although it is alleged that he was struck several blows with a spanner by one of the men, Mr. Hart succeeded in making the driver run the car into a ditch. Three men were later handed over to the police.
