FETE AT WAIPU
Brilliant weather prevailed for the garden fete at Waipn carried out by the gardening circle of tho Waipu Women's Institute to raise funds for an extensive scheme for beautifying the main street of Waipu by means of tree-planting, otc. The function, which was a pronounced nuccess, was opened by Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P. The parade, which was organised by Mesdames Moreland and Duncan, consisted of decorated ponies, bicycles, children's perambulators and ' tricycles, and was headed by Miss Jean Coats dressed as a herald and mounted on a charger. The sideshows wero numerous and under tho direction of Mesdames Greenwood and Jenkinson. A special feature was the fairy cave constructed by Mrs. Greenwood and her sons. Stalls were under the control of Mrs. J. 0. McKay, Mrs. Day, Mrs. G. McKay, Mrs. L. McLeod and Mrs. G. Grant. An attractive programme included Highland dancing, croquet and bowling competitions, egg and spoon races, etc. Luncheon and afternoon tea -were under the direction of Mesdames Codlin and A. W. McKay. The function was followed in the evening by a concert and dance. Those contributing items at tho concert were:—Mrs. M. E. McLean, Mrs. Borthwick, Mrs. Muller, Mrs. Cullen, Mrs. C. McLennan, Mrs. Jenkinson, Misses M. Tapley, B. Cato, J. Brooks, J. Russell, M. and B. MeLeod and Lang. Tiae Waipu Pipe Band was in attendance and rendered several items. Mrs. Albert Hayward and Mr. Collins were the judges of tii© decorated sections*
