TOWN BOARD'S HORSE
DECISION TO SELL DEBATED DISSENSION AT TUAKAU [from our own correspondent] TUAKAU, Wednesday Lively scenes marked a special meeting of the Tuakau Town Board last evening. It had been convened on the requisition of three members, Messrs. W. J. Deeble, W. J. Taylor and J. J. Dromgool, to consider rescinding resolutions of the previous meeting that the board's horse be sold and that a resideut, Mr. P. Lockery, be employed to grade the main highways through the town district, he supplying his own horses. The proposal to rescind was lost by four votes to three, the chairman, Mr. A. H. Tapper, and Messrs. E. Fielder, G. Asher and S. H. Crawford voting against it. The meeting had an audience of about 15 residents, including the local constable. Proceedings became very animated, but the chairman's insistence that his rulings be observed had its effect. At one stage in the discussion Mr. Deeble > said: "I challenge the whole of this board to resign and go to the electors on the question of retaining the horse." After some personal exchanges, the chairman ruled that members must speak only on the question of rescinding the previous resolutions. On the voting being recorded, the chairman declared the meeting closed. It had occupied just an hour.
