OBITUARY

MR. S. L. P. RIMMER The death of Mr. S. L. P. Rimmcr, a well-known Auckland business man, has occurred at his residence, 23 Fairview Road, Mount Eden. Born in Southport, Lancashire, 74 years ago, Mr. Rimmer eaine to New Zealand as a young man and shortly afterwards married Miss E. M. Campbell. There were six children, the eldest son, Mr. W. C. Rirrtrner, being killed in the Great War. Mr. Rimmer is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. E. T. 0. Downard, Mrs. N. V. Allen, and Miss Elsio Rimmer, and two sons, Mr. Keith Rimmer and Mr. Leslie Rimmer. MR. PHILIP DAWSON. An early Auckland resident, Mr. Philip Dawson, died yesterday at Avondale, aged 90 years. Mr. Dawson was a Londoner by birth, and as a youth in the merchant service he visited New Zealand in 1861. He was married at Igtham, Kent, in 1870. and embarke'd for Auckland in 188S with his wife in the ship Triumph, which after landing her passengers, was wrecked at Tiri Tiri while outward bound. After fanning for some years at Pahiatua, in the course of which he conducted the first post office in that district, Mr. Dawson returned north and settled first at Mount Eden and then at Otahuhu, where he conducted a successful orchard and specialised in raising hothouse grapes. Fourteen years ago Mr. and Mrs. Dawson retired to a property in Station Road, Avondale, where they celebrated their diamond wedding in January, 1930. Mr. Dawson is survived by his wife, but there is no family.

MR. W. H. PELLOW [by telegraph—own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Wednesday The death has occurred of Mr. William Henry Pellow, aged 68 years, a pioneer settler of the Onewliero district. Born in Auckland, Mr. Pellow as a young man was in the employ of Winstone, Limited. Later ho lived with his parents at Tuakau, where they had taken up a farm. On the Onewhero settlement being opened Mr. Pellow took up a section and he had resided there for tho past 44 years. He acquired three adjoining blocks and the area is now divided into separate farms. Mr. Pellow married Miss Isabella Brownlie, of Pukekohe, in 1896. She predeceased him. There are four sons.

REV. W. SCORGIE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Tho dealh occurred to-day of the Rev. W. Scorgio at tho age of 79 years. Mr. Soorgie was born at Kilmarnock in 1854 and came to Now Zealand in 1875. He was educated at Otago University and at the Theological Hail. Dunedin., Ho was ordained in 1885 and was inducted the samo year to the charge at Lumsdon. In the following voar he took over the charge of Tapanui, wliero he remained until 1894. Mr. Scorgie then went to St. Peter's Church, Christchurch. In 1899 ho accepted a call to Mornington, Dunedin. He retired in 1915. Ho was moderator of the Presbyterian General Assembly in 1915.

MR. A. G. BUSH [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION]. WELLINGTON, Wednesday Mr. A. G. Bush, late borough engineer at Lower Hutt, who resigned in September on account of illness and went to South Africa, died at Fort Beaufort, Cape Province, yesterday. He was formerly a Government engineer at Kenya.
