TAXI-DRIVER FINED

NEGLIGENCE ADMITTED CAR STRIKES A TREE [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Wednesday A charge of negligently driving his car on the Cambridge-Rotorua Road on the evening of February 13 was admitted by a taxi-driver, John Leonard Ruff, in the Hamilton Police Court to-day. Sergeant Anniss said defendant was returning from the Rotorua races and at Karapiro his car struck a tree on the right-hand side of the road. Defendant was evidently not looking where he was going. Mr. N. S. Johnson said defendant had trouble with his engine and this caused him to take his attention from the road. Defendant had been driving for 13 years, and had not been in trouble before. A fine of £2 was imposed.
